Funky Spaces is a platform for all the amazing alternative work spaces available in Bristol. Coordinated by the Happy City Initiative it showcases some of the best flexible and affordable offices, hot desks and meeting rooms that our city has to offer. The spaces we list have been vetted and rated for their 'funk' factor. To be on our site spaces need to offer at least four out of five of the following:

Easton Business Centre is the largest of our four business centres in east/central Bristol. It is a purpose built modern facility providing up to 68 units – workshops and offices – ranging in size from 100 – 1200 sq ft. Prices start at just over £1 per sq ft and rents include heating/lighting, reception, call answering, parking and security. There are also well equipped meeting rooms available for up to 40 delegates at very competitive prices.

It’s hard to miss our Brunswick Court centre - a stunning Grade II listed building overlooking Brunswick Square in Bristol. This former Congregationalist Chapel provides spacious and well serviced office accommodation to over a dozen organisations, just a stone’s throw from Bristol city centre. As well as being steeped in history and retaining much of its Georgian character, Brunswick Court has full disabled access and houses an array of modern facilities including cycle racks, showers, a lift and kitchen facilities on every floor. Brunswick Court tenants also have access to an onsite property manager, football table and a communal garden. Next door to Brunswick Court is the Unitarian Chapel.'s large hall is available for hire with seating for up to 70 people and it offers a self contained kitchen as well as being fully wheelchair accessible. Create is a vibrant environment centre which hosts a range of events and exhibitions and also features a purpose-built Ecohome. It offers excellent conference facilities, meeting rooms and gallery space, which can be hired out at reasonable rates. Create is also home to several organisations working in the field of sustainable development, and the 4th floor is home to Lifeskills - learning for living. Visitors are welcome to visit the ground floor exhibition and gallery, and the Ecohome. Create's location next to the river and the floating harbour also make it a great starting point for various short walks.

Our aim at Meanwhile Creative is to support Bristol’s young creatives and entrepreneurs in developing their projects and businesses. We provide affordable and lively places to work in the heart of the city; thriving communities of innovative, like-minded people in an arena for networking and collaboration.

Following a pilot venture at Bridewell Space, we currently have two buildings operational - Pithay Studios and 36 King Street, both in BS1. The former measures 20 000 square feet and features private offices, an open plan desk space, a gym, two shops and a cafe. The latter is a hub for young tech companies on one of Bristol's most historic streets.

Behind the frontage of 10 – 12 Picton St you will find Ethical Property’s smallest centre. Sitting on the only Georgian shopping street still in existence in Bristol, the downstairs retail unit has been home to several local ethical businesses over the years while the upper floors have become small offices supporting a range of local charities. The centre boasts a variety of shared services including a meeting room, communal internet connection and shower. Also to the back of the building, we’ve kept the beautiful Georgian walled herb, fruit and vegetable garden which tenants now help us to maintain as a wildlife garden, complete with resident frogs.

Erected as a Memorial Hall for local residents after the First World War, St Michaels consists of a large high-ceiling hall with amazing views out over the city, a communal kitchen and toilet facilities. The hall can accommodate up to 80 people for seats events or up to 100 standing, there an electric piano, tables, chairs and portable staging available for use.
